Fracture traces have long been used as tool in environmental science. In the past, the focus was on hard copy photo pairs and stereo viewers, which required long waits and visits to the BTGS library. With the advent of Penn Pilot, PAMAP lidar and orthoimagery data, and color infrared imagery being readily available, it is possible to easily do analyses for anywhere in the state. It has become apparent that fractures are of vital importance not only for water exploration but for contaminant mapping and even hydrocarbon exploration.

Participants will learn the basic theory of fracturing, how to do stereo pair analysis, as well as make use of GIS and image processing tools to utilize digital data.

Registration cost includes stereo glasses and photograph(s), along with AM/PM breaks and lunch.

Note:  A laptop will be required for this course. See minimum system requirements above.
